While working on Tesla's Battery Abuse Testing and Engineering Team I used CATIA to design an installation tool used by associates on the assembly lines of Model S and Model X electric vehicles. Assembly associates were facing the reoccurring issue of incorrectly installing connectors connected to the battery pack of vehicles. This caused the battery to be damaged during testing procedures after assembly, and was associated with extremely high repair costs.
I used User Centered Design methods to design the tool alongside assembly associates and integrated their feedback in order to fit their needs and working environment. The use of the tool prevented the misinstallation of connectors and saved Tesla the $2000 a week they were spending on repair costs for this issue.
